Bratislava Airport

I decided last week to start walking 10,000 steps a day. Here are a few snaps from my walk around the M. R. Štefánik Airport. The airport used to be called Ivanka but the name was changed a few years ago after national hero and aviator General Milan Rastislav Štefánik.

During World War I, he served as a general in the French Army and also Minister of War for Czechoslovakia at the same time. As one of the leading members of the Czechoslovak Resistance, he was a major contributor to the Czechoslovak sovereignty cause, since the status of Czech and Slovak populated territories was not really secure until just before the demise of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, in 1918.

There are several statues in of him in Bratislava. His likeness is even on the tail of Slovak Government transport aircraft. Can you see him?
